Farming Scenes
The 1829 Commercial Directory of Cheshire had limited views of the value of Ollerton, but to our mind the authors missed the point that the countryside is also place of work, albeit a beautiful one.
"
Ollerton, or Owlerton, is a small township in the parish of Knutsford, three miles south-east from that town, and in the same proprietary as that of Rosthern, &c. With the exception of the beauties of nature, and the high state of cultivation which surrounds this place, it is unimportant, and to the man of business of but very little consequence. The number of inhabitants is about 300."
Transcribed from Pigot & Co's Commercial Directory of Cheshire, 1828-9.
